The Legends of Basketball New York Chapter, part of the National Basketball Retired Players Association, unites elite athletes whose impact extends far beyond the game. Representing decades of basketball excellence, the chapter serves as a powerful platform where legacy, leadership, and community converge.
Under the leadership of Tom Hoover, former NBA player and President of the New York Chapter, the organization continues to elevate its mission—transforming influence into action. Hoover brings a vision rooted in purpose, using the global language of basketball to inspire, mentor, and create access for future generations.
More than just a network of former players, the New York Chapter is a movement—honoring the past while actively shaping the future of the game and the communities it influences.
OUR MISSION
As Members of an Elite Group of Professionals, we recognize that we have been blessed to have reached this pinnacle, and with this achievement comes the responsibility to give back to our communities in any way possible.
Thus it is incumbent on us to continue to mentor our youth via our S.T.E.M. Program, Scholarship Mentoring Program to be supportive in times of crisis, to provide food to over 250 families through our Food Bank work, our Thanksgiving meals to the schools for children and their families, our community out reach and Christmas Cheer and Toys to our children who have so little, living in shelters and with the HIV.
We, as an Organization and as Individuals, will never forget the communities from which we have come, and we will always be ready to assist whenever and wherever it is needed.
